Generosity and The United Methodist Church
I ask that you ponder my personal responses to these four questions about generous giving in The United Methodist Church. Please develop your own responses and follow it up by generous actions.
- Why do we give? God loved. God gave. We love. We give. We give because God’s abundance is the source of our joy. We cannot out give God. Do you know the difference in tithes and gifts?
- In The United Methodist Church, why do we do ministry together? It is as simple as people coming together, combining their money to accomplish something bigger than themselves.
- How do we do that ministry? We are part of the Christian body. We work together to accomplish what could never be done on our own.
- Will God hold us accountable for the gifts God shares with us? The more we have the more we should want to give and quite honestly must be giving.
As we continue to live into a new and different world this year, we must look beyond our doors and ourselves to find those people of God who need our help. Give generously as you provide God’s people the help they need. Let’s make a difference in someone’s life today.
In closing, I want to share our conference mission statement:
The Mississippi Annual Conference—empowered by love, generosity, justice and apprenticeship—forms spiritual leaders, faith communities and connections so more disciples of Jesus Christ transform the world.
Thank you, Mississippi United Methodist Church. May we continue in our great denomination to Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world
