Disaster Response Update: Kentucky Storms

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 16, 2021
This past weekend brought devastation, death and injuries to many in the southeast. We in Mississippi were spared the worst of the storms. Mississippi Emergency Management has received reports of some damage in northeast Mississippi that we will continue to monitor.

As is always the case, Mississippians have been deeply touched by the images coming out of Kentucky and other places destroyed by the powerful tornados this weekend. I have received numerous calls, emails, and texts wanting to know how we can help.

As they are continuing to be in a search and recovery mode, I have put together a list of things that each of us can do right now.  There will be other ways to help as the days, weeks, and months go by and we will keep everyone updated as we go forward offering love and assistance to our brothers and sisters who have lost so much.

Most immediate needs presently:

  1. Prayer
  2. Financial Contributions – there are 3 ways to do this
    1. Directly to the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference - here – you can give online and by checks
    2. Send checks to Mississippi Annual Conference with note to where you would like the funds to go
    3. Through UMCOR’s US disaster response and recovery – advance #901670
We, as Mississippians, are more than aware at the length of time recovery from this type of disaster takes. So, as we are made of additional requests from those most affected, we will share that information with you.

May the light of Christ continue to break through the darkness during these days leading up to Christmas and may we be reflectors of that light as we seek to reach out to those in need.
Christmas Blessings,
Rev. Vickie White
