Reminder

Below are highlights and information on the 2022 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference.

Agenda Highlights

Wednesday

  1. There will be a family meeting at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will allow us time to renew acquaintances and enjoy community with one another. Additionally, there will be a discussion on the challenges facing United Methodism.
  2. The opening gavel for annual conference will be at 4:30 p.m. with a service for the Consecration of Church and Community Worker.
  3. Ordering of Ministry service begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night with a message from Bishop James E. Swanson Sr.

Thursday

  1. Opening worship begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, with preaching from Bishop Mike Watson.
  2. Retirees will be recognized during the first business session beginning at 10:00 a.m.
  3. Memorial Service begins at 1:30 p.m. Bishop James E. Swanson Sr. will be giving the sermon.
  4. At 7:00 p.m. there will be a Youth Service. All churches are invited to bring their youth groups.

Friday

  1. The first business session begins at 9:00 a.m.
  2. The final business session starts at 1:00 p.m. 
  3. Closing worship starts at 2:00 p.m. with sermons from Bishop Jonathan Holston, Rev. Tim Thompson and Rev. Randy Frye.

A masks required room will be available as an extension of the bar of the conference.

  1. Only voting members will be allowed in this space.
  2. The annual conference live feed will be streamed to this area.
  3. Members will be able to vote from the area.
  4. Speaking to the body will be accommodated with a short walk to the edge of the space.

Mask use is suggested for the BancorpSouth Arena

  1. Masks will be available at the BancorpSouth Arena entrance.
  2. Hand sanitizing stations will also be available throughout the facility.
  3. The arena is a large area with plenty of room for social distancing (5,000 seat capacity for the portion of the arena that we are utilizing).

Other meal options

  1. There will be two concession stands open and both will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs.
  2.  One stand will be cash only the other will only accept credit/debit.
  3. There are many other meal options near the BancorpSouth arena. They can be found on the Guidebook app or here.

Bishop and Mrs. Swanson retirement celebration

  1. There will be a reception.
  2. At the end of closing worship Bishop Swanson and family will be on stage and everyone is invited to come by on the floor which provides for social distancing.
  3. You are invited to bring cards that can be placed in a basket for the family as you greet them in a processional format.
