2020 Clergy Session and Ordination News

Greetings to my clergy family,

I have been blessed by the faithful work that so many of you are doing during this time of pandemic. The creativity and commitment you have shown to your people, and to the One who called you, has been astounding. I truly believe the Church is being reshaped and revived in the midst of this new way of doing life and ministry.
As we continue to examine “new” ways of being faithful, the Mississippi Conference Board and Ordained Ministry (BOOM), in consultation with the episcopal office, has made the following decisions in relation to the 2020 Clergy Session and to the ordination and commissioning of the 2020 classes.
2020 Clergy Session will be held via Zoom video conference call on June 2, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The session will only be directed toward those questions from the business of the annual conference (BAC) that require a vote, the election of provisional members, associate members and members in full connection, recognition of orders, recognition of retirees and approval of leaves.
As usual, the BAC will be released early to all clergy by email on a link. It is our intent that it will be released by May 26, 2020. Any questions, corrections or edits need to be emailed to dellis@mississippi-umc.org no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 29, 2020. As usual, we will continue to make corrections and edits prior to publication in the 2020 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference Journal.
By May 31, 2020, an email containing the link for Zoom or the protocol to “call in” will be released.

The Service of Ordination is tentatively scheduled for October 15, 2020, with a back-up date of January 14, 2021

In conversations with Bishop Swanson and the ordination class, there was a strong desire to wait until less restrictions on attendance were made by the Governor of Mississippi. We were very concerned about the desire to share this moment with family and friends without putting anyone at risk of harm. It is our hope that this can also be a celebration of the returning of the church to “in-person” worship with all the pomp and majesty that is this special service. More information will be released as details are finalized.
Again, I want to thank you all for your faithfulness during these trying times and your understanding as we move onward together. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our office.
