2020 AC Session Updates

In previous years, we would be basking in the blessings of hearing the mission and ministries of the Mississippi Annual Conference and in the joy of seeing friends and colleagues at meals and in hallways. However, this is a different season. We have a new vocabulary that includes social distancing, staying in place, masks required, etc. All of this required the postponement of the 2020 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference. We will gather virtually and in-person for one day—July 27, 2020. Below you will find the most current information for our time together. It will be different than in years past, but our prayer is that we will experience The POWER of We as we celebrate how The Mission Continues….

  • Out of an abundance of caution, we want to social distance as much as possible by keeping attendance at each district satellite location to only clergy and lay members of the annual conference. Pandemic data is ever-changing; likewise, guidelines pertaining to the coronavirus remain in flux. Therefore, in order to operate out of the most current information, we will send the district locations out via e-blast by July 13, 2020

  • Masks will be required unless there is a medical reason for not wearing one. Hand sanitizer will be available at each site.

  • For those members of the annual conference who belong to some of the coronavirus’ most vulnerable demographics, or who are not comfortable gathering at their district satellite location, you can register to attend the session of annual conference via a Zoom webinar. You will receive connection details after your complete your pre-registration form.
  • If you are not a member of the annual conference and you are a guest, you will be able to watch the session of annual conference via live stream on The Mississippi United Methodist Conference’s Facebook page.

Agenda Information:

  • Since pre-registration is required this year, everyone will check in at each site from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. so everyone will need to be seated at that time. When you look at the agenda you will note that there will be no breaks as we will move from worship to business, back to worship as seamlessly as possible. We are planning on ending the session at 1:00 p.m.

  • Since we are meeting for only four hours, we will be providing bottled water and pre-packaged snacks only. We will not be providing a meal, so if you need/want special snacks you will need to bring them with you. We are sorry that we must function in this way but due to the many guidelines/precautions that are required at this time, we felt that this would be the most prudent way to gather.

  • Offerings for the 2020 Mission Focus and the Ministerial Education Fund can be brought to each district site and dropped in baskets Monday, July 27, or if you would prefer to mail it in send to:

    Mississippi Conference

    P.O. Box 1603
    Jackson, MS 39215
  • Clergy Session Update: The Mississippi Annual Conference Clergy Executive Session met via Zoom video conference call June 2, 2020, to do the required work of the business of the annual conference (BAC) with regards to clergy character and status. A digital ballot was used for all required action. All balloted questions passed by more than 95 percent of the vote.

  • The laity executive session will be held Sunday, July 26 at 3:00 pm via Zoom webinar. Connection information will be sent to you by July 20

  • Opening worship will be combined with the memorial service. We will be giving the families the option of coming to Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, or attending at one of the district sites. Candles will be in all locations for lighting, and Holy Communion will be celebrated in each sight using sealed juice and wafer elements.

  • The ordination service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ UMC. It will be livestreamed on The Mississippi United Methodist Conference Facebook page.

  • Voting for remote Zoom webinar participants will be done via email using the email address provided during pre-registration.

  • All items required by The Book of Discipline will be addressed during our brief time together.

  • All questions, comments or motions from satellite locations will be submitted through the tellers at each site.
