Global Ministries Names New Mission Executive

The Reverend Regina Henderson of the North Carolina Annual (regional) Conference has been appointed to the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries as the associate general secretary for Justice and Relationships. In this position, she will strengthen relationships with partners in the United States and around the world including United Methodist central and annual conferences.

Noting Henderson’s leadership in the local church, annual conferences, and throughout the global connection, George Howard, who heads Global Ministries’ Mission and Evangelism unit, said, “I am excited that Regina is joining the Global Ministries team. She has a reputation and track record for following God’s call, working in churches of various sizes, and investing in leadership development.” He continued, “She will be a great asset to the regional executives working with a diversity of leaders around the world.”

Her global mission work has taken her to Peru on several occasions and to Zimbabwe in response to children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Henderson is familiar with the work of Global Ministries, having served as a US-2 young adult missionary. She says, “My work as a Christian missionary gave me a solid foundation to serve as a pastor for all God’s people with a heart for local and global mission.”

Henderson, who currently serves as the senior pastor at Wilson Temple United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC, accepted the position with the approval of the appointment by Bishop Hope Morgan Ward. She will begin work on July 1, 2013. The process will be finalized with a vote by the board of directors when they meet in October. Henderson holds a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University and is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church.

The General Board of Global Ministries is the global mission agency of The United Methodist Church. It has personnel, projects, and partners in 136 countries and incorporates UMCOR and the Advance for Christ and His Church, the denomination's designated mission giving channel.
