Congo bishop to receive peace award

NEW YORK (UMNS) — United Methodist Bishop Nkulu Ntanda Ntambo, Democratic Republic of Congo, will receive the 2010 Peacemaker in Action award from the Tanenbaum organization during a Nov. 11 reception in New York. He also will speak about his efforts to build sustainable peace in his country’s Katanga province.

The bishop has helped reduce the recruitment of child soldiers by organizing care for street children, assisted internally displaced persons, created an agricultural training center and built brick churches as a physical sign of permanence and commitment. Tanenbaum is a secular organization that promotes interreligious understanding.
