Amazing Pace leaders to present program at health conference

Key leaders in the Amazing Pace wellness program will take part in the Healthy Congregations Conference at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

The Rev. Dr. Embra Jackson and Lee Burdine of Columbus will make a presentation on the program that encourages participants in the Mississippi Conference health insurance plan to lead more active lifestyles.

In the two years since the program was introduced, those taking part have improved many of the key health indicators such as weight, blood pressure and blood sugar. As a result, the conference has seen savings in its insurance premiums.

Keynote speakers at the event, scheduled for Oct. 10, include Dr. Kenneth S. Robinson, senior pastor at St. Andrew’s AME Church and a former state commissioner for health, and Vivian Berryhill, founder and president of the National Coalition of Pastors’ Spouses.

Scheduled workshops include Starting a Health Ministry, Expanding & Marketing, The Amazing Pace, Liturgical Dance and Community Gardens.

Cost of the event, which begins at 8 a.m., is $25 and includes breakfast, lunch and materials. For registration and information call 662-449-5002.
