“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge
until the destroying storms pass by.
I cry to God Most High,
to God who fulfills a holy purpose for me.” — Psalm 57:1-2

It is wearying, this season of storms.

As Hurricane Ike passes by, we offer prayers for those in the wake and the path of destruction.

We give thanks again for the leadership of many who have prepared and responded to wind and rain and rising water. In Greenville and other parts of the Delta, there is flooding. Many in the Brookhaven District experienced power loss in the wake of Gustav. Many on the coast evacuated; others stayed with an eye on the weather channel.

We continue to pray for safety.

We continue to pray for the diminishing of the forces of nature.

We continue to help those who have been hurt.

We continue to offer generosity.

We continue to be God's people, faithful, persevering.

May each of you be blessed, for you are a blessing.

With gratitude for your ministry,
