SUMMIT — The Rev. Gordon Eugene Dickerson, 83, a retired pastor, died July 2, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.

Services were held July 5 at Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church in Pike County with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Dickerson was the father of the Rev. Barry Dickerson, pastor at Water Valley First United Methodist Church.

Rev. Dickerson was born in Johnston Station on Jan. 9, 1925, to Sidney Dickerson and Della Johnston Dickerson. He was retired from the state Agriculture Department and a United Methodist minister who was pastor of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church for 13 years. He was a member of Johnston Chapel UMC, United Methodist Men and a former Gideon.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, Billie Faye Dickerson.

Other survivors include: sons, Gerry Dickerson of Summit and Bill Dickerson of Hattiesburg; daughter, Candace Campbell of Purvis; sisters, Donald Yarborough, Martha Jackson and Elouise Campbell, all of Summit; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
