More, young, diverse

“The promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls. . .” — Acts 2:39

We moved from the Annual Conference session to a Wednesday morning gathering of young people, adult leaders of young people and the cabinet.

We gathered in two concentric circles, all chairs facing the center, with those under the age of 35 in the inner circle and those over the age of 35 in the outer circle.  Those in the inner circle spoke and those in the outer circle listened to the hopes and dreams and visions of the young leaders present.

Then Dr. Lovett Weems posed an incomplete sentence, "We will have ministries for young people in the Mississippi Conference in the next quadrennium so that ____________."  In small groups the young leaders worked on completing the sentence.

A "so that" is not a program, an event.  A "so that" is a missional vision, a desired outcome.  The work of the groups will be continued in the first gathering of the new Young People's Table.

It is important to complete the sentence.

We gather on Sunday mornings to worship so that _______________________.

Our Sunday school class meets so that _____________________.

We have a Pastor-Parish Committee so that ____________________.

We have an annual conference so that ______________________.

If you pose the incomplete sentence in your context, I am very interested in learning what happens.  Thanks for sharing the adventure of ministry, the journey forward, with each other and with me.
