Lake Junaluska forms new partnership

Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center and The Alban Institute announced a Learning & Leadership Partnership on May 29 at the retreat center in North Carolina. The event partnership will expand the leadership seminar events offered at Lake Junaluska for both laity and clergy.

Jimmy L. Carr, Lake Junaluska’s executive director, said the partnership will unite the richness of knowledge of the two institutions.

“The Alban Institute is known in the U.S. and around the world as an organization of discovery, leadership development and education. They bring to Lake Junaluska much needed research on the needs of the church, new ideas, training opportunities and respected leaders, trainers and consultants. Together with Alban we will become a premiere training center in the future,” he said.

Dr. James Wind, president of The Alban Institute, said both institutions have been serving the church historically and their partnership can strengthen local congregations and their communities.

“Both our institutions are looking for new ways to serve the communities of America and we recognize the need for partnership. Lake Junaluska has great strengths and Alban has different strengths so both of us together will have a greater reach,” Wind said.

The partnership is expected to go beyond traditional ways of learning, said Roger Dowdy, director of Ministry Events at Lake Junaluska.

“One of the key objectives is that we are a place of hospitality, creativity and excellence. Alban and Lake Junaluska fit all these words and they both bring experience in these areas. One of the future implementations beyond bringing people to this site is learning through other venues such as the internet for example,” Dowdy said.

The next Alban Institute at Lake Junaluska event is scheduled for July 6-10. For information on this and other events, visit or contact the Lake Junaluska Ministry Events office at 828-454-6795.
