Mary C. Howell, clergy spouse


MAGEE -- Mary Catherine Core Howell, 64, a clergy spouse, died May 11, 2008, at her home.

Services were held May 13 at First United Methodist Church. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Howell was born in Folsom, La., on Aug. 8, 1943, to Earl and Cora Lee Core. She graduated from Lee Academy in Cleveland, Tenn., and the University of Southern Mississippi.

She was the spouse of the Rev. L. Glenn Howell, a retired clergy member of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Magee, where she sang in the choir. She served on a number of mission trips to Honduras, Nicaragua, Jamaica and Alaska. Mrs. Howell served with her husband appointments to Maxie-McLaurin-Bond Charge; Riverside UMC in Cincinnati, Ohio; prison chaplain at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman; Pascagoula Becky Bacot, Leakesville UMC; Williamsburg-Lonestar Charge;  Laurel Antioch UMC; Mount Olive-Mize and Magee First UMC.

She was a member of the Mississippi Watercolor Guild, Garden Club and Autistic Society. She was an artist and singer who loved to entertain in her home.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Coleman.

Other survivors include: daughters Mechelle Stockett of Madison and Julie Mealins of Chelsea, Ala.; sons, Dr. Greg Howell of Brookhaven, Philip Howell of Tupelo and David Howell of Magee; brothers Barney Core and Ed Core of Folsom, La.; sister Marilyn Joyner of Cleveland, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren.
