Millsaps reaches funding record

Millsaps College has reached a new fund-raising record -- $100 million -- halfway through the college's current campaign to raise $160 million for support for student scholarships, increased faculty resources, innovative programs and enhanced facilities.

"The level of engagement and support from our volunteers and donors has been inspiring. Their investment in the vision for the future of Millsaps builds on a grand legacy of excellence that has been our heritage for over a century," said President Frances Lucas.

"Legacy: A Campaign for Millsaps College," a seven-year initiative which is scheduled to be completed in 2010, is the largest and most successful fund-raising campaign in the college's history.

"We knew in the beginning that our campaign goal was aggressive and ambitious," said J. Murray Underwood, class of 1963 and campaign chair. "The fact that we have reached the $100 million mark at this point in the campaign is a testament to the impact that Millsaps has had in the lives of so many of the college's alumni and friends."

Recently, funds raised by the Legacy campaign have resulted in two new endowed faculty chairs, the Sanderson Chair in Arts and Sciences and the Chisholm Foundation Chair in Arts and Sciences. In addition, more than 100 new scholarship funds have been established during the campaign to assist deserving students who wish to attend Millsaps College.
