Jesse C. Killingsworth, retired pastor


COLUMBIA — The Rev. Jesse C. Killingsworth, 86, a retired pastor, died Dec. 2, 2007.

Services were held Dec. 8 at New Zion United Methodist Church with interment at James Cemetery. Pallbearers were John C. Hill, Charles W. Hill, Scottie Hill, Dr. Obie C. Hill, Gregory Jackson, Derrick Alexander, Kenneth Price, Dwight Price and Kevin Bolton.

Rev. Killingsworth was a clergy member of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. A native of Copiah County, he received his first appointment in 1951 at Kirby Higdon Methodist Church. He also served appointments at Tylertown, Enterprise Parish, Hattiesburg Bentley, Meridian South Side, Lampton, Lampton Bethel, Crystal Springs New Zion and Brookhaven Larger Parish. He retired in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susie Killingsworth and son Robert Killingsworth.

Survivors include: daughters, Gladys Itson of Racine, Wis., and Joyce Hill of Houston, Texas; sons, Donald Killingsworth of Marietta, Ga., Jesse James Killingsworth of Utica and Charles Earl Killingsworth of Hattiesburg; and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
