BOONEVILLE – Autra Evelyn Barnes, 92, a clergy spouse, died Jan. 12, 2008, at Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo after a long illness.

Services were held Jan. 16 at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville. The Rev. C.D. Edge and the Rev. Bobby Hankins officiated. Pallbearers were Boyd Fugitt, Danny Gardner, Charles George, Bob Kelly and J.C. Rogers. Burial was at Sumners Chapel Cemetery in Marietta.

Mrs. Barnes was the widow of Rev. Julius Kirk “J.K.” Barnes who died in 1976.

Mrs. Barnes was born March 31, 1915, in Prentiss County to the late William and Sally Wroten Clark. She grew up in Marietta. She was an employee of Prentiss Manufacturing Company in Booneville for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed years of Christian service alongside her husband. She was passionate about sewing, growing flowers and vegetables, spending time with her grandsons and visiting with many family members and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Dallis Dean Barnes, in 1993.

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Betty Carolyn Horn Barnes of Tupelo; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and five great-great-grandchildren.
