Ward to discuss 'Three Simple Rules' at Tupelo First UMC event

Bishop Hope Morgan Ward will lead a discussion of Three Simple Rules at “Teaching/Preaching” at Tupelo First United Methodist Church.

Originally called the “Lay Academy,” the event serves as a means to bring in top scholars and preachers to lead the congregation in biblical and theological studies.  The name was changed to “Teaching/Preaching” as some incorporated both means to educate and inspire.

Among the bishops who have led the event are Robert Morgan, Jack Meadors, Kenneth Carder and Will Willimon. In addition, a range of theologians and educators have led the event, including Drs. Tom Long, Reginald Mallette, Roberta Bondi, Lovett Weems, Evelyn Laycock, Bill Mallard and Gayle Felton.

Ward will be leading and preaching on the new book by Bishop Reuben Job. Ward will be preaching the morning services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Feb. 17, and the evening services at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and Feb. 18. All the preaching services will be in the church sanctuary. There will also be a time of teaching at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 and at noon Feb. 19 in Wesley Hall. Those who plan to attend the lunches on Monday and Tuesday, please call the church office by Feb. 14 to make reservations.
