JACKSON — Rosemary Stewart Lawrence, 78, a clergy spouse, died Jan. 6, 2008, at the Arbor in Ridgeland.

Services were held Jan. 8 at Goodman Hillcrest Cemetery in Goodman.

Mrs. Lawrence grew up in Kosciusko. After graduating from Kosciusko High, she attended Holmes Junior College where she met and married Roy Lawrence of Goodman. Together they served many churches in the Mississippi United Methodist Conference and had fond memories of those congregations, especially of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church in Olive Branch. Rev. Lawrence served as editor of the Mississippi United Methodist Advocate.

Mrs. Lawrence earned her B.A. at Memphis State University and taught at Grenada High School, Chastain Junior High and Central High in Jackson. She later enjoyed a career in real estate.

She was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church in Jackson and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Lawrence, in 2001 and her second husband, Bennie Ivey in 2006; two brothers, Dean Stewart and Bill Stewart.

Survivors include: son, George Roy Lawrence III of Akron, Ohio; daughter, Priscilla Lawrence Smith of Madison; sister, Roberta York of Madison; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church or Millsaps College.
