This Week
Hattiesburg Court Street United Methodist Church presents “A Victorian Christmas” at 5 p.m. Dec. 8. Activities include refreshments, the Adult Chancel Choir, a piano concert, Angel Choir, live nativity, Children’s Choir, Father Christmas and the Candlelight Café serving red beans and rice and chili for $6. The church is located at 609 Southern Ave. in Hattiesburg. Call 601-583-1711 for information.

On Dec. 8, the children and youth of Noxapater Charge (Noxapater and Mount Pisgah UM churches in the Starkville District) will present "Away In A Manger" at 6 p.m. at Mount Pisgah UMC.  On Dec. 9, they will present the program at Noxapater UMC. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow the program.

Charleston First United Methodist Church presents a Community Christmas Cantata at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 9. The church will present "The Gift Goes On" under the direction of Louanne Cossar. The church is located at 108 East Cossar Blvd. Information: 662-647-8736.

The choirs of St. John and Wells Memorial United Methodist churches will present “The Sounds of Advent” at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at St. John UMC in Clinton. The program, narrated by WLBT’s Howard Ballou, will feature a 50-voice choir and small orchestra presenting new and traditional settings of Advent and Christmas music. The church is located at 1702 Old Vicksburg Road in Clinton. 

Next Week
Baker’s Chapel United Methodist Church will present is annual living nativity scene from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 14-16. The scene features live camels, sheep and people. In addition, visitors are invited to come inside the church for refreshments. Baker’s Chapel is located at 1965 Johnston Road in Hernando.  

This Month
Christians around the world celebrate the birth of the Christ child on Dec. 25. Christmas commemorates God becoming flesh through the birth of his son Jesus. The most popular biblical account of the Christmas story appears in Luke 2:1-7.
