Moore Memorial UMW honors late leader

The United Methodist Women of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona recently made a donation to missions in memory of one of its most dedicated servants.

Joan Emerson was an active member of Moore Memorial in every way. She was the church secretary for 29 years before retiring. She soon returned to work part-time until her passing.

Over the years, Mrs. Emerson served on almost every committee in the church. She often chaperoned youth trips to Camp Lake Stephens retreats and Mountain Top missions. Mrs. Emerson personally provided transportation for the elderly on field trips, doctor’s appointments and shopping. Mrs. Emerson taught Sunday school and participated in Disciple Bible Studies. She was an avid contributor and promoter of the church bazaar where handmade quilts and other items were sold and auctioned.

In addition, Mrs. Emerson was active in the community. She served as a city alderman and a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association (BPW).

Mrs. Emerson passed away March 7, 2002, at the age of 70.
