Reflect and pray on Aug. 29

“For these things I weep;
“my eyes flow with tears;
“for a comforter is far from me,
“one to revive my courage.

“My soul continually thinks of it
“and is bowed down within me.

“But this I call to mind,
“and therefore I have hope:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
“God’s mercies never come to an end;
“they are new every morning,
“great is your faithfulness;

 “’The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,
“’therefore I will hope in the Lord.’
“It is good that one shoul wait quietly
“for the salvation of the Lord.”
— Lamentations 1:16, 3:20-26

 Receive, Loving God, our continued grief as a witness of our love for one another and our love for our communities. Make true in us your promise through Jesus Christ that all who mourn shall be comforted.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, strengthen us for the healing work of generosity and compassion and endurance.

Keep us in your care and give us strength to be your faithful people in the days to come.

This is our prayer as we remember and face the future unafraid because of your great love and abiding promise.

With humble and grateful hearts, we pray. Amen.
