Letter to the Editor: Truth sometimes causes division

Recently, I have received several messages decrying organizations within the United Methodist Church that are continuing to raise concerns about the actions of some church agencies and leaders. The messages claim that these organizations are creating division within the church. I suggest that even those who disdain these organizations should look beyond the messengers and consider the content of the claims. Truth often causes division (Jesus said that he came not to bring peace but a sword). I suggest that we not "duck the issues" by "shooting the messenger" but that we respond to the concerns without resorting to name-calling.
