Byhalia UMC to address security

Crime prevention and church security will be among the topics discussed by Dr. Chester Quarles when he speaks May 9 at Byhalia United Methodist Church.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

“Increasingly, criminals are targeting hours of worship as well as parking lots and facilities related to worship centers,” he said.

Quarles is professor of criminal justice and former CEO of his own full-service private security firm. He has his been with the University of Mississippi since 1968. He has taught bodyguards to TV stars, government officials, industry CEOs and missionaries how to avoid and survive terrorist attacks.

“It is not so much doing what is right; it is doing what is wrong in a crisis situation that can get you hurt,” he said.
