Meridian District UMW support missions

United Methodist Women in the Meridian District have given nearly $5,000 to various mission offerings.

The gifts were reported at the March 27 meeting of the district UMW Executive Committee at Druid Hills UMC in Meridian. Iris Boggan of Decatur, district treasurer, reported $2,491 was pledged to Missions, $487 was given to the Call to Prayer and self denial, $100 to Wesley House, $198 to Rust College, and $1,590.00 was given to designated giving such as Arlene Hall, Frances Perry Scholarships and Seashore Assembly. Area pastors may use Perry scholarships to further their education.

President Kay Risher of Enterprise led the meeting, and Frances Gail Jones of Meridian led the group in the song This is the Day and a devotion. She also read a poem she wrote, The Secret, that was published in The National Library of Poetry — Verdant Lands of Spring.

Jones is planning a special retreat April 19 at the district office called “Women’s Story.” A light supper will be served, followed by a period of mixing and mingling. The program consists of scripture, prayer, songs, a litany and the play A Woman’s Place.

On Aug. 11, a school will be held dealing with music and missions, Israel and Palestine and globalization.
