Marion County woman boxes blessings

At a senior citizens' feeding site in Marion County, Bernice Brown James was taught to weave square tissue boxes.

She loved it and she began weaving them at home. James decided to make enough to give away. At Christmas 2005, despite Hurricane Katrina, she and her sister, Dorothy made and presented 300 tissue boxes to the three nursing homes in Columbia. Some donations were received from her church and friends.

James enjoyed making and giving the tissue boxes so well that she started another project making baskets. Last Christmas she distributed 202 baskets to nursing homes and homebound patients.

Her next project is to make gifts for residents in Pearl River County for Thanksgiving.

James is a member of New Hope Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
