Sessions to interpret apportioned giving

The Mississippi Conference staff is hosting “Resourcing the Mission: A New Interpretation of Apportionments” at seven locations across the conference this month to share simple, straightforward information about apportioned giving and receive feedback on a new tool for interpreting the conference budget.

Steve Casteel, director of Connectional Ministries; Sheila Cumbest, director of Ministerial Services; Gwen Green, director of Communications; Embra Jackson, administrative assistant to the bishop; and David Stotts, treasurer and director of Financial Administration, will lead the sessions with the help of local district superintendents.

Active and retired pastors, lay members of Annual Conference, church treasurers, Finance Committee chairs, and communications coordinators are encouraged to attend, but the meetings are open to all interested.

The schedule:

March 26 — 10 a.m., First UMC, Brookhaven; 6 p.m., Parkway Heights UMC, Hattiesburg

March 27 — 10 a.m., First UMC, New Albany; 6 p.m., First UMC, Batesville

March 28 — 10 a.m., Crossgates UMC, Brandon

March 29 — 10 a.m., First UMC, Starkville; 6 p.m., District Office, Meridian

The meetings are a response to results from the A2 Indicators, in which churches indicated a desire for stewardship resources and information. A portion of the sessions will be devoted to medical benefits and pensions, the two largest line items in the conference budget. Separate forums on pensions and insurance will not be held this spring.
