Evelyn Newman Carroll, clergy spouse


TUPELO — Evelyn Newman Carroll, 75, died Nov. 21, 2006, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.


Services were held Nov. 27 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Tupelo Memorial Park. The Rev. Andy Ray, Dr. W. P. Carroll and the Rev. David Carroll officiated. Pallbearers were David Henson, Britt Caldwell, Mary Livingston, Steve Ray, Lindsey Leake, David Wright Henson, Tatum Henson, and Frank Riley Jr. Honorary pallbearers were her high school graduation class of 1949 and the pastors and wives of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors of Tupelo handled arrangements.


A Baldwyn native, she was born Jan. 25, 1931, to the late Forest Pearson and Julia Elizabeth Tucker Newman. She was married to Dr. Bill Carroll for 55 years. She was a devoted pastor’s wife and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.


Survivors include her husband Dr. Bill Carroll of Tupelo; sons, Dr. W. P. Carroll of Greensboro, N.C., and the Rev. David Carroll of Madison; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Mississippi Methodist Senior Services or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
