Mike Ward to speak to Broadmeadow UMW unit

Dr. Mike Ward, former two-term state superintendent of schools in North Carolina and husband of Bishop Hope Morgan Ward, will be the featured speaker at the general meeting of the United Methodist Women of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church in Jackson.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct 3 and all UMW members are invited.

Two of the emphases for the 2005-06 UMW year are “Public Education, Issues and Challenges” and “Children of the Bible,” which addresses problems common to the children of the Bible and today’s children. Ward is an author and a volunteer in short-term missions. He is currently on the board of directors of the Bethlehem Center in Jackson. He is chair of the board of directors of Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger non-profit providing relief in more than 50 countries on five continents. He has recently worked alongside Bishop Ward on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
