Woodrow P. Wilkerson, retired supervisor


RIDGELAND — Woodrow P. "Woody" Wilkerson, 93, died June 19, 2006 at Madison County Nursing Home in Canton.


Services were held June 22 at High Hill Methodist Cemetery near Forest in the Norris Community.


Mr. Wilkerson was the father of Cheryl Webb, a member of the Mississippi Conference staff.

A native of Scott County, Mr. Wilkerson he had been a long-time resident of Jackson before retiring and moving to Ridgeland in 1990. He was retired from a 34 year career at Jackson Sash and Door Co.. He was a member of the Madison County Republican Party, chair of the Election Commission of the City of Ridgeland and a member of the Madison-Ridgeland-Gluckstadt Post No. 153 of the American Legion.

Mr. Wilkerson served in the US Army in World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre and was a member of the Magnolia State Basha-China Burma, India Veterans Association.

In earlier years he was active and filled many capacities in the United Methodist Church, including being a delegate to the North Eastern Layman's Conference at Lake Junaluska, N.C. for several years. He was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Madison and was a lifetime member of United Methodist Men. He was also a certified lay speaker.

He was active in outdoor activities, including his yard, flowers and gardening.

Other survivors include: son Woody Wilkerson of Madison; brother, Jerry Wilkerson of Odessa, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Guy Barrett of Spanish Fort, Ala., and Mable Evans of Meridian; and four grandchildren.
