Leslie Darrell Busby, retired pastor


ENID — Leslie Darrell “Pete” Busby, 86, a retired United Methodist pastor, died June 23, 2006 at the Veteran's Home in Oxford.


Services were held June at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Courtland with the Rev. Bob Whiteside officiating. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home of Batesville handled arrangements.


Rev. Busby served in the Senatobia District at Tippo, Longtown Pleasant Grove Charge, North Oxford Parish, Cockrum, Fountain Head, then back to Longtown and lastly serving at Free Springs United Methodist Church.


He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Courtland.


Rev. Busby was born in Panola County on Dec. 3, 1919 to Squire and Omie Hollingsworth.


Survivors include: wife of 58 years, Shirley Gee Busby of Enid; daughters, Bonnie Busby Burkes of Batesville and Diane Busby Robison of Enid; son, Leslie C. Busby of Courtland; sister, Beatrice Smith of Toccoa, Ga.; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
