Study focuses on 'hot' issues

Many issues confronting believers in the United States test our beliefs. How does one consider those issues from a biblical, moral and theological point of view?

The Rev. Roy Ryan faced that question when asked to lead a class at Tupelo First United Methodist Church. The result of answering that question and preparing for the class is a 125-page guide for such a study. The study helps groups examine “hot-button” issues.

Each of the 10 topics has a three- to four-page essay and five to six pages of “selected readings” from 20 or more sources used in Ryan’s preparation for leading the course. Ryan said he tried to provide a variety of viewpoints from scholars and popular writers as well as the United Methodist Book of Discipline.

The guide may be purchased for $12 each for five copies or fewer. For more than five copies the cost is $11. All proceeds from the sales go to First UMC’s Delta Mission.
