Briarwood UMC plans 50th anniversary

Members of Briarwood United Methodist Church in Jackson plan to observe their church’s 50th anniversary on June 11.

All former pastors, staff, members and their families are invited to help celebrate. The church is located at 320 Briarwood Drive.

The festivities are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts and an informal get-together in the church parlor. The Rev. Brad Hodges will convene the regular church service at 10:30 a.m. Returning to Briarwood to preach the sermon will be Rev. Harmon Tillman of Winona, who was the church’s first minister, 1956-1962.

Those able to eat lunch with the congregation are asked to make reservations by calling the office at 601-956-4035.

Chairs for the celebration have been four charter members — deemed treasures by church members — who have maintained active roles in the work of the church for 50 years. They are Hazel Thornton, Martha Wilson and Pete and Martha Cowsert.
