Annual Conference is just around the corner. Here’s some useful information to keep in mind while making plans to attend.


Visit the conference Web site for information about Annual Conference, including forms, maps and the tentative agenda. Go to, click on “Events” and look for Annual Conference 2006.

Resolutions and petitions

Resolutions and petitions for the 2006 session of the Mississippi Annual Conference must be submitted by May 12. As called for in the Standing Rules, send in triplicate to Conference Secretary Rev. Roger Puhr, P.O. Box 2585, Starkville, MS 39760, and provide one copy to Laura Ranger, Mississippi Conference, 321 Mississippi St., Jackson, MS 39201.


Clergy and lay members will register at separate locations this year. Clergy will register at Anderson United Methodist Church, site of the clergy executive session. Laity will register at Christ UMC. Registration opens at 2 p.m. June 11.


Bishop Eben Nhiwatiwa of Zimbabwe will preach the opening worship service of Annual Conference June 11, when the conference celebrates its Chabadza Covenant with Zimbabwe and collects the mission offering. Bishop Hope Morgan Ward has designated this year’s offering for the Chabadza partnership. Gifts will support students and programs at Africa University, open a conference communications center in Harare, Zimbabwe, and assist the ministry and outreach of the Zimbabwe Area. “Chabadza” is a Shona word that means helping someone who is already at work. 

Youth celebration

Youth members of Annual Conference will host a Celebration of Youth Ministries banquet from 6-7 p.m. on June 12, at Madison UMC. The event will highlight youth ministries across the conference, and Bishop Nhiwatiwa and Bishop Ward will speak. Pastors with a small number of youth in their congregations are especially encouraged to attend. Tickets, available from district youth coordinators, are $15 each or $25 per couple.

5K run/walk

Members of Annual Conference and local United Methodists are invited to start the day June 13, by running or walking a 5K (3.1 mile) course around Christ UMC in the second annual Arise! Shine! Run! 5K run/walk. Register by May 17 to ensure you receive a T-shirt. Forms are available on the conference Web site.

Spouses luncheon

Clergy Spouses will hold their annual luncheon on June 12, at Christ UMC. Cost of the luncheon is $12. Retirees and surviving spouses pay only $6. Send checks made out to Mississippi Conference Clergy Spouses to Sherrill Heidelberg, 422 Perkins Dr., Brookhaven, MS 39601. Registration deadline is May 28.


Childcare for the children of conference members will be provided by the staff of Christ UMC. Childcare registration forms are due May 22. Forms are available on the conference Web site.
