Rust renovates nearby homes

HOLLY SPRINGS - Two families, those of Morris and Francis McKinney and Ella Jackson, recently moved back into their homes after rehabilitation by the Rust College Community Development Corporation.

The corporation came about as a result of a grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“The focus of the project is the rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes on Martin Street within the target area identified by the college for its community intervention program,” said Clencie Cotton, the grant’s director.

Cotton said this is phase one of the project and the next effort for which a grant in the amount of $598,000 was received will be used to acquire the remaining non-owner occupied structures on Martin Street to rehabilitate or rebuild.

Those structures will be made available to qualified home buyers, people who are renting, live in the area or returning to the area.
