White Oak UMC holds Valentine celebration

More than 100 people took part in a special Valentine’s celebration sponsored by Crystal Springs White Oak United Methodist Church’s couples ministry.

Members of White Oak’s couples ministry were encouraged to invite friends and other non-churched couples to join them for the special evening. Couples from several communities and states came to partake in the free all-you-could-eat meal on Feb. 11.

Some 125 people pre-registered for the event, including one invited couple that traveled from Houston, Texas. Several couples the Jackson, Hazlehurst and Port Gibson areas attended.

The event was held at Michael’s Backstreet Grill in Crystal Springs. The church reserved the entire restaurant for the evening. The theme was, “Share Your Heart” and the key note speakers were the Rev. Harvest Johnson and evangelist Annie Johnson. Harvest Johnson is the associate pastor of Son Flower Church in Anguilla.

“It was truly an enjoyable evening filled with good fellowship and Christian fun,” said the Rev. Eddie Spencer, pastor of White Oak UMC. “I would like to thank all of the many guests for coming and sharing in our couples ministry Valentine Celebration.”

Betty Spencer provided music for the night, which also included games, door prizes, food, desserts and conversation. The meal catered by Michael’s consisted of pork ribs, chicken and beef brisket.
