Listening Sessions with Bishop Swanson

Bishop Swanson invites all interested persons to attend one of six listening sessions where he will respond to questions regarding proposed legislation which will be considered at the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference in St. Louis February 23-26, 2019. Some members of the 2016 delegation representing the Mississippi Annual Conference will also attend this meeting with Bishop Swanson. Below are dates and times of the listening sessions with a link to register. Registration is not required, however, we strongly urge you to register, so that we can estimate how many people will be in attendance. This will aid us in selecting a space that will best accommodate you. Registration also offers you the opportunity to submit questions and concerns for the listening sessions. Registration for each listening session will no longer be available the day before the event.

At the Listening Sessions, Bishop Swanson will…

  • Provide a  general overview on the report released from the 32-member Commission on a Way Forward.  A more detailed conversation will be done via video with members of the delegation at a later date.
  • Provide clarity on the process of what’s happening now and how we got here, as well as what processes will take place before and during the Called Session of General Conference 2019
  • Receive questions submitted online as well as questions written on index cards from the audience.
  • Respond to as many questions as he can where he can provide clarity to the audiences’ concerns within the allotted time frame

Given the purpose of the Listening Session, we will not have time to…

  • Have a theological debate on homosexuality
  • Allow comments and/or questions from the floor for Bishop Swanson
