Rev. Leanne Burris

Rev. Leanne Burris

My name is Leanne Burris and I have been an elder in The United Methodist Church since 2006.  My husband and I are both clergy. Currently, we serve separate appointments in the Seashore District.  We have four children, a senior, a  junior, a seventh grader and fourth grader. After returning from Asbury Seminary in 2002, we served as probationary elders in Morton.  We were ordained in 2006 and moved to St. Paul UMC in Ocean Springs. I served as associate there for five and a half years before being appointed as associate pastor at Trinity UMC in Gulfport. A little over two years ago Bishop Swanson asked me to plant a church on the gulf coast. The Bridge UMC launched public worship services two years ago in September in D'Iberville.

As a reserve member of the Mississippi Annual Conference Delegation to General Conference, I see myself as a support person. My observations have led me to think that adaptive leadership, spiritual warfare and global growth all contribute to our current conflict, and conflict isn't necessarily bad! I am praying that the conflict we currently experience becomes a catalyst for us to be more filled with the Holy Spirit and guided by God's purposes.  Each week at the communion table we pray, "May we be one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world until Christ comes again in glory."  That's my hope for the General Conference.
