Crawford Street United Methodist is seeking a part-time Organist/Pianist

Qualifications:
• Minimum Bachelor of Arts in music or equivalent experience
• Experience accompanying choirs and corporate worship
• Familiarity with liturgical elements of worship in the United Methodist Church
• Ability and willingness to plan and perform in traditional and non-traditional worship music settings and collaborate with Music Director, Clergy, and Staff Salary: $20,000/yr commensurate with experience; Paid 2 week vacation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Play the musical portions of the service (prelude, offertory, and postlude, and accompany all hymns) and accompanying the choir and soloists. Weekly service is Sunday at 10:55 am with choir rehearsal prior to the service. Special services include (but not limited to) Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, additional Easter services, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.
• Consult and collaborate with the Music Director and Pastor for planning music. Communicate with the Music and Worship Committees.
• Select music, learn, practice, or review it, determine organ registrations, set them up at the organ console, and practice them for effectiveness.
• Select, plan, and practice hymn accompaniments and appropriate settings for sections of the service.
• Maintain manual and pedal dexterity by regular practice on the organ and other instruments.
• Attend and accompany choral rehearsals, rehearse with other musicians or soloists, and prepare for all such rehearsals. Regular Chancel Choir rehearsals are Wednesday evenings, but special rehearsal may be required for special events.
• Select new organ compositions to meet the special and changing needs of the services. Musical style is generally traditional with contemporary additions.
• Consult with Music Director on maintenance of the organ and piano (entrusting that work to qualified and trained professionals).
• Maintain the organ/piano music library.
• Consult with families for weddings and funerals. For weddings, the organist sets the fee in consultation with the couple/family. Funerals are considered a worship service and there is no set fee, but families or funeral directors often provide honorariums.
• Collaborate with the audio technician to establish proper balance of all sound sources to ensure helpful and effective musical leadership in worship.
• Write publicity materials and provide information about special music for inclusion in the newsletter and bulletin.
• Attend meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional organizations (coordinated through Music Director and Pastor).
• Arrange for substitutes during times of absence.
