THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
METHODIST FOUNDATION OF MISSISSIPPI, INC.
The Executive Director of the Methodist Foundation of Mississippi, Inc. shall be elected by The Board of Directors of The Foundation, (If the Executive Director is a clergy member of an Annual Conference, the Board of Directors will request an Episcopal appointment of that person to the position as an Extension Ministry appointment.) The Executive Director shall be responsible to and work under the direction of the Board of Directors of The Foundation.
The Executive Director shall demonstrate the following:
A commitment to Christian service along with dedication to the structure, theology, and practices of The United Methodist Church or its successors.
An understanding and appreciation for the theology of Christian stewardship including an understanding of why and how people give.
Effective public speaking and teaching skills.
An understanding of the value of planned giving and the tax advantages and legal
implications in using various avenues for current and deferred giving.
Experience in fund raising including planned giving and endowments.
Skills related to non-profit funds management and administration.
Organizational, management, public relations and marketing skills.
A willingness to travel throughout Mississippi and elsewhere as required.
Self-discipline and strong work ethic.
Neat personal appearance.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director Shall:
Be the Chief Operations Officer for The Foundation which includes oversight of the total investment portfolio, all trusts and endowments. The Executive Director shall maintain security and integrity in the handling of funds entrusted to The Foundation. Prompt attention shall be given to requests made to The Foundation.
Reside in the Jackson area, and maintain an office in The Foundation building.
Be responsible for all staff of The Foundation. The staff shall be responsible to
the Executive Director. Support staff, as may be needed, will be provided by The Foundation.
Shall work with the Board in developing short- and long-range goals and work to implement plans to meet these goals.
See that all trust tax and corporate returns are filed at appropriate times.
Connect with Methodist Churches, the Mississippi Conference and its institutions
to promote The Foundation’s services.
Ensure the promotion and work of Planned Giving.
Promote Estate Planning.
Resource churches and conference endowment committees and endowment
Work with and give support to each committee established by The Board of
Directors. Provide an open-door atmosphere to Conference leadership, churches,
agencies and institutions of the Annual Conference.
Work with the Bishop, Cabinet, and Director of Connectional Table to provide
resources and assistance to emerging needs within the scope of The Foundation’s

represent Christ and the Methodist Foundation of Mississippi, Inc.
Conference and Other Duties
The Executive Director:
Serves as a member of the Extended Cabinet of the Mississippi Conference.
Serves as an ex-officio member of the Conference Finance and Administration
Is a member of the Board of Ordained Ministry Finance Interview Team.
Is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors of the Methodist Hour.
Is a member of the National Association of United Methodist Foundations.
Is a member of the South Eastern Jurisdiction Association of United Methodist
