Bingo! I'm a winner! A winning attitude was shared by both the residents of Chadwick Nursing Home in Jackson and the members of the PEARL Girls Ministry of Mt. Salem UMC in Terry. Scheduled visits to Chadwick are just one of the community outreach activities enjoyed by this group of mentees and mentors.
The PEARL Girls Ministry, birthed in mid-2013, with a focus on strengthening young ladies so that they can be all that God has called them to be, embraces 1 Timothy 4:12 as a theme scripture.
Mt. Salem's first lady, Betty Spencer, whose vision led to the formation of the ministry said, "Our heart's desire is to love, mentor and teach these young ladies so that they will be able to joyfully live out the principles of Purity in motives and actions, showing Enthusiasm as they make themselves Available to be used by God, knowing that He died so that we can all live a Righteous life and share His Love with everyone."
The PEARL Girls Ministry at Mt. Salem also recently prepared and served supper to a women's unit at the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield. Although Mt. Salem UMC is home, the PEARL Girls reach out to the surrounding area to involve any girls and young ladies ages seven to 20 who wish to participate.
Ministry members, usually clad in signature pink t-shirts, pearl bracelets and jeans, also engage in studying of the Word, fun activities and community outreach.
