Area Sunday School Leaders Will Gather to Sharpen Skills and Share Ideas
St. Matthew's UMC in Madison will host a workshop for current and potential adult Sunday School teachers from area churches of all denominations who want to gain skills in leadership, message delivery and curriculum selection. The workshop features three well-known Sunday School leaders from Jackson Metro United Methodist churches and will take place Sunday, September 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Matthew's in Madison off Old Canton Road.
WHO: Howard Boone from Christ United Methodist in Jackson, Tommie Cardin from Galloway United Methodist in Jackson and Allison Carr Dickerson from Crossgates United Methodist in Brandon will each present a workshop.
WHAT: All attendees will rotate through three 45-minute presentations and Q & A sessions. Sessions include:
• Delivering the Good News
Boone will help teachers rethink their approach to preparing lessons and give tips on delivering a message that inspires and invokes discussion.
• Shepherding, Nurturing and Growing Your Class
Cardin will help teachers identify areas for growth as a leader and give strategies for nurturing existing and new class participants.
Carr Dickerson will walk teachers through curriculum types and selection for making an impact in Sunday School each week.
WHEN: September 30, 2012, 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sessions will rotate every 45 minutes and attendees will gather for an opening session and breaks.
WHERE: St. Matthew's United Methodist Church is located at 7427 Old Canton Road across from the Madison airport. Parking is to the side and rear of the building. Attendees will be instructed on where to register onsite.
WHY: This workshop is designed to better equip Sunday School teachers or those considering teaching a Sunday School class at any area church to organize, lead and grow an existing or new Sunday School class. Leaders will be challenged in three areas by three of the highest recommended United Methodist Sunday School leaders in the Jackson Metro area.
This workshop is open to all Sunday School teachers and potential teachers in the Jackson Metro area.
