New House of Worship in the Senatobia District

6/27/2012

Sunday (June 24) was the 4th Sunday after Pentecost, but it was that and much more to one of the churches of the Senatobia District. Fifty two weeks to the day, a group of the faithful family of faith stood together with their pastor and District Superintendent, Andy Ray, underneath a tent, to break the ground for their new house of worship.

That Sunday, a glorious building was consecrated during the morning worship service! The body of believers declared their purpose, presented the building, and were asked, "By what name shall this house be known? To which they heartily replied, 'It shall be called Southaven First United Methodist Church!'

The building, pulpit, baptismal font and the Lord's table were consecrated as an act of worship. Rev. Jim Glass, pastor of the church delivered an inspiring message entitled "A Consecrated House for a Consecrated People".

All in attendance had recollections of the journey that had taken this congregation from their previous location on Bunker Hill Drive to this new home at 723 Star Landing Road East, Nesbit, MS. Some were happy memories while others brought back the struggles involved in moving a church.

Stained glass windows and altar rails from the old building were incorporated into the new sanctuary. The good folks at Southaven 1st UMC urge everyone to come and see what God has done! They truly live up to their mission statement, "Christ is First at Southaven First".
