Bringing Hope to Hurting Children in Mississippi
By Robyn Burchfield, Methodist Children's Homes

The Methodist Children's Homes is encouraging churches to attend the Day of Hope, a community day on campus on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. MCH is celebrating the hope that has been restored in their children through the faithful members of the Methodist churches across Mississippi.

Emily, 16, one of the residents said, "I feel different, but I cannot explain why. I like going to bed at night knowing that no one will come in and do things to me. I like being part of a family."

When Emily first came to MCH, she immediately stole the hearts of each staff member. The pain in her green eyes gave MCH workers some understanding to all that she had endured in her short life, but the sweet smile she wore on her face gave us hope.

Sadly, Emily was a victim of physical abuse and neglect. After being beaten by her mother, she was locked in a closet to "heal from her wounds." Emily's friend noticed her absent for a couple of days, which led to authorities searching Emily's house and finding her. Emily was hurt, hungry, and scared. By God's grace, she is now at MCH. She is safe and thriving in an environment where she is loved unconditionally.

Children come to MCH hurt, broken, and hopeless, but by the time they leave, they are on the road to healing, and most importantly, they have hope for a bright future. It is because of partners like Mississippi United Methodists, that all of this is possible. They are bringing hope to MCH, and we hope that the church will come and see first-hand how God is using them in the lives of the MCH children.

Congregations are urged to gather a large group and join in the celebration the Day of Hope! Churches, church organizations, Sunday school classes, and members of the community are invited to come and tour the MCH homes and campus, meet the children, enjoy a fish fry and learn more about bringing hope to hurting children in Mississippi.
