Racial Reconciliation
Building and strengthening relationships across races and cultures is a key initiative for the Mississippi Conference. Churches are invited to grow in love and fellowship together as Light Partners.
In 2007, the Mississippi Conference produced Between the Ashes and Alleluias, a Lenten devotional guide of personal reflections about the 40 years since the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Contributors were United Methodist clergy and laypeople, most of whom are members of the Mississippi Conference.
In 2008, the Mississippi Conference is preparing another book of personal reflections. Marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this year's book will focus on the ways King's life and teachings touched people's lives. The book will be released just before the April 4 anniversary of Dr. King's death.
