Mississippi Conference Camps Invite You To "Send A Kid To Camp!"
By Rev. David Carroll, Chairperson of the Conference Camping Ministries Committee
At the 2013 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference, the Rev. Ted Giordano, former director of
Wesley Pines Camp, Conference, and Retreat Center, was recognized for his exemplary work in the sharing of the Gospel as he received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award. For 17 years Giordano carried out that ministry at Wesley Pines. Over the course of his tenure approximately 100 professions of faith were recorded each year-more than twice that of the largest churches in the annual conference. Thank you, Ted, for your good work.
That good work goes on at Wesley Pines, as well as at Camp Lake Stephens, Seashore Assembly and hopefully soon at Gulfside Assembly, still recovering from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Hundreds of lives are being impacted by God's good news and your United Methodist camps in Mississippi are committed to seeing that it continues.
Unfortunately, every year there are children and youth unable to come to camp due to a lack of funds. In 2013 our camps funded scholarships for 145 campers at a total of $21,145. Given the transformational work that the camps are doing, we hate to think that any young person would miss the opportunity to encounter the living God because they could not make a payment to cover the costs.
How Can You Help?
Send a kid to camp! What a great way to participate in the sharing of the Gospel, especially with young people.
A contribution of $400 covers the cost of a five-night camp stay, or a $200 donation can provide half the cost. You may contribute individually, or why not invite your Sunday school class or challenge your church to send a kid to camp? Just think of how many lives could be transformed if every church sponsored just one!
Each of our camping centers has started their registration period and space and availability are limited. We thank you for your generous support and we treasure the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ through Christian education outdoors.
Send your donation to the camp of your choice or to the conference treasurer, David Stotts at 320-A Briarwood Dr., Jackson, MS 39206.
