By Mike Hicks, Associate Director of the Mississippi
United Methodist Foundation
The Mississippi United Methodist Foundation awarded just over $43,000 to college and seminary students for the 2013-2014 academic year through the wise investment of gifts made by generous donors. The scholarships will assist 72 college students and nine seminary students in their academic and professional pursuits. Funds are sent directly to the students' institutions of higher learning.
The foundation is grateful to those donors who have touched so many lives through their generosity and helped reached towards the mission to grow their ability to assist Mississippi United Methodist students with their education. The goal is to reach $100,000 in scholarships in the future. Help make this happen through giving generous gifts to the foundation.
Anyone may make a gift to the general scholarship fund of the foundation at any time. Funds may be given in honor or memory of a family member or friend. An acknowledgment card will be sent to the family or friend to inform them of the gift. Those interested may also establish an endowed scholarship with a minimum amount of $15,000. This may be contributed over a period of three years. The student receiving the scholarship will be told the name of the scholarship and will be invited to write a thank you letter to the donor or family member of the donor.
Gifts to the scholarship fund should be mailed to: P. O. Box 2415, Ridgeland, MS 39158-2415. Please mark your check “Scholarship.” If the gift is in honor or memory of someone, please enclose a note to indicate this with the address for an acknowledgement card. Persons wishing to establish an endowed scholarship are invited to call the foundation at 601-948-8845 or 1-800-496-0975.
