SMU joins coalition to prevent oil spills


DALLAS (UMNS) - Southern Methodist University, a United Methodist-related school, will be part of a coalition of research centers that will work to protect Texas from another disaster like the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Texas Gov. Rick Perry came to the university to announce the formation of the Gulf Project, which will work to provide the oil industry with better technology, better monitoring and better trained spill management teams. The university's Maguire Energy Institute will join five other Texas universities, two state agencies and the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America.
