United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women in the Mississippi Conference have scheduled meetings for members across the state.
The UM Men are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 First United Methodist Church in Clinton, while the UM Women are set to hold their Annual Meeting Oct. 2-3 at New Albany First UMC.
The men’s gathering will be the first statewide meeting held in several years. However, conference President Chet Dillard of Clinton said the time is right for the men to get more organized and become more active in both mission work and spreading the gospel. Dillard said the theme for the meeting is “Time for Healing.” He said the event will include speakers, singing, food and fellowship.

The theme for the UMW gathering is "Come to the Table: Recruiting and Reclaiming Members."Registration will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 2. A worship service begins at 7 p.m. with a reception following the service. Activities, including the business session resume Oct. 3 with registration at 7:45 a.m. The first session begins at 8:45 a.m.
A new component this year will be an opportunity to be involved in hands-on mission while at the meeting. In conjunction with Stop Hunger Now, the group plans to package 10,000 bags of food for distribution to hungry people. The cost is only 25 cents per bag or $2,500. The program has become popular with Mississippi United Methodists over the past three years and hundreds of thousands of hungry people, many of them children, have been fed.
