Russian UM church needs roof

Revival United Methodist Church in Latnaya, Russia is almost complete enough for the people of the village to start having worship services in the building.

However, it is critical that the roof be finished before winter. The church needs finances immediately to begin and finish the roof. The estimated cost to finish the project is $35,000. If several people can do a little, the people of Latnaya will be able to worship in their church this winter.

Several people in the Mississippi Conference can share the story of Revival UMC. The Rev. David Cumbest of D’Iberville Heritage UMC recently returned with a team from his church on a two week mission trip to work there. Others include the Rev. Fred Britton, the Rev. Jerry Chapman, Dr. Owen Gordon and the Rev. Ron Stanley.

Revival United Methodist Church is led by the Rev. Galina Kolesnikova. Not only has she organized the church where many of the residents are very poor, but she travels many miles one way to minister to an orphanage and many miles another way to minister in a maximum security prison.

The church building that was started a few years ago has had to overcome many obstacles to even begin its building.

Funds could come from individuals or churches which have funds for mission, a special offering or a Sunday school class or group could hold a fund raising event to help send the funds to “Russia with Love.”

The funds should go directly to Dr. Ben Poage, Treasurer; Rural Chaplains Association; 1896 Lancaster Rd.; Richmond, KY 40475; call 859-623-2664 or e-mail
