Seminar to explore Old Testament

8/4/2009

Dr. Sandra L. Richter, associate professor of Old Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary, and soon to be professor of Old Testament at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson will lead a two-day seminar on the Old Testament at Central United Methodist Church in Meridian.

“The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament” is scheduled for Aug. 22-23 in the church fellowship hall. Sessions are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23.

Richter summarizes her seminar by saying, “For most Christians their knowledge of the Old Testament is like an unbearably messy closet – too many names, dates and places all jumbled up into too little space. So folks shy away from the Old Testament because it is just too hard to sort out the detail, follow the story and get at information they can use. This two-day seminar offers a solution: The big picture.”

The deadline for registration is Aug. 10. The cost is $20 per person. Saturday lunch and nursery are provided. Online registration is available at www.centralunitedmethodistchurch.org. You may also register by contacting the Rev. Amy Roller at the Central UMC office at 601-693-1521 or by e-mail at amy@cumcmdn.org.
